Be very wary of coaches who take absolute stances. You see this with many sprint coaches and strength coaches now a days. They are terrified of fiber type conversions, when in reality it is just a gross simplification of the process. Fiber changes are very complex. – Steve MagnessLatif Thomas, a sprint coach offers a structured approach in developing a sprint stable at the HS level with cross coun

What are we discussing here? Latif and MIAA rules? Mike Boyle and his knowledge of sprinting? The adaptation of contraction velocities as a result of a high volume of LSD?

In that Boyle link provided, did he say he read this stuff in 1984?

I said I am not talking about Latif….his points are valid and I agree with most of what he says.

1984? I don’t get it either. The book came out in the 1990s I believe and perhaps he was thinking about the book and how propaganda and totalitarian regimes work.

I am talking about fiber conversion and Mike Boyle brought up some good points of discussion, and I agree with his conditioning methods.

Speaking on fiber conversion, I agree as well. Many years back, Poliquin spoke of the effects being systemic. LSD-type training with upper body only decreases lower body power numbers. LSD-type training with lower body only decreases upper body power numbers.

It can be a bit frustrating when 20 year old common knowledge amongst sprint coaches is used to create internet gurus and is also part of a cutting edge DVD product in late 2009.
Is the level of coaching/instruction out there so bad that these guys can get away with this?

my coach is forcing me to run about 20 minutes a day for 5 weeks when i am a jumper but “he wants to condition me” should i be worried about muscle conversion? Or about losing power that i cant just rebuild in a week or so?

No you should not be worried. I would be more worried about the internet…

CSUF sprints/jumps coach has recently added a 1 mile run every morning for all her athletes…seems like a trend here…

I would be concerned about why your coach thinks this is a good way to condition a jumper. It doesn’t relate in any way to what you would be doing.

(I run the 400 and went 51.9 as a freshman and he thinks id do better there) well to be honest i could train myself 25 times better… but hes my coach and im in highschool and for some reason they think they know what to do when it comes to jumpers…. They dont believe in power athletes… just runners! you guys may have already heard about my dilemas on the “running prior to jumping” post so sorry for being repetitive but this was somewhat of a different subject.
