I have an athlete that wants to run distance 800-1600, and he wants to do the long jump and triple jump. This young man is a senior in high school. He has been doing this since his freshman year. To tell you the truth, he has not been very successful in either area. Last year he was hampered by a football injury that lingered on all year, so I really can't go by last year's results.
I am only in my 2nd year at the distance events, but I think he is tearing down his legs doing this and has nothing left when our state qualifying meet comes about. What do you coaches with more experience than me say? I could use some advice on this. To add to the mix, his dad is the jumps coach!
