i know static and pnf stretching have been proven to decrease power output, but what about dynamic stretching? i was told by someone on another forum that dynamic stretching has now effect on power output, but i thought id confirm it here.

I do not have references to back it but from my understanding there is no decrease in force output from dynamic stretching since it allows the muscle to obtain normal or just over its normal range of motion as well as not causing the microtrauma sometimes caused from static overstretching which may also decrease force output.

Dynamic stretching is a form of stretching where the body is moved dynamically through large ranges of motion rather than holding a single static position. There is actually little to no research on dynamic stretching’s effect on power output but I’ve never noticed a detriment like I observe with too much static stretching. And as Quik noted, the mechanisms that cause the power and strength detriments associated with static stretching would be of far less a concern when using dynamic stretching.

any example of a dynamic stretch so i can implement it into my warmup??

Forward and side leg swings are examples of dynamic flexibility. In many cases you can convert every static flexibility exercise by following the description I gave above.

what mechanisms would these be?  besides microtrauma.

The stretch shortening reflex thresholds may be reset and the tendon may be slightly lengthened which would necessitate a greater muscle shortening before force is transmitted to the bone.
