I thought that headline might catch your attention. You read it right…a new study indicates that if you eat more calcium, you’ll crap out more fat. Twice as much. Why is this important? Well for one, it explains the seemingly paradoxical link that’s been observed between increased dairy consumption (typically foods that are higher in fat and even sugar) and lower body compositions. I figured this out when I was changing diapers a month ago. I was giving the kid 32-40oz of milk a day (maybe more), it made his crap stink, and was turning the crap pale in color so I originally thought it was bile problem associated with a bigger problem until he became sick and had trouble downing the milk and other things suddenly he had more colorful crap and wasn’t as smelly from the lack of fat.

I have seen other evidence with similar conclusions. Once I took over a client that had been on a caveman no dairy/calcium diet but had added a few kg’s in the wrong places. I got immediate results from getting her back on to calcium via diary. I’m not advocating calcium for fat loss as much as for bone health but its great to kill two birds with one stone…and if its related to smelly nappies then hallelujah we’ve just made millions of parents happier!

One interesting implication would be that an athlete could consume higher Ca when they are going to ‘splurge.’
