Great Job…
-
Good stuff, however why is Miley Cyrus being played in the background..?
-
wow! I was chatting to him about this last week…great stuff…looked a bit easy as well…
Legs = MASSIVE
-
How can this be WR? Some guy in 75kg class has pulled 360kg and Tom’s heavier.
-
Under 23.
-
Is the deadlift included in the olympics?
Is this a joke? I really cant tell. Just incase your not joking, no it’s not. Just clean+jerk and snatch.
-
Wow. Nicely done. Holy crap – 770 lbs. Makes me feel like a little girl. Especially amazing at your size.

sorry i have never watched the weightlifting it didnt interest me until i started weights (late 2009)

Ive never watched a powerlifting comp, i just know because someone wanted me to do 1. I always watch the olympics lifts though.
WAY too many drugs in the strength-sport world though, so i declined the offer. Nearly as bad as athletics 😉
-
Amazing job. That’s a huge pull and you made it look easy.
Joe-
I would guess that the strength sports as a whole have WAAAAY more drug usage at the top than in athletics…especially when you could the non-tested federations. Even in the most tested varieties (Olympic Weightlifting) you get entire countries barred from competing in the sport because of their positive tests.ELITETRACK Founder

Sorry Mike, i thought people would realise i was joking. Athletics is of course a lot cleaner than any strength sport. I know some weightlifters and strongmen and all are on something, they tell me it’s pointless trying to be the worlds strongest man if you don’t take drugs.
I’m fine with it, as long as i don’t ever get cheated out of medals in my sport.
-
I just realised, i dont want this to be another drugs arguement.
So….well done Tom.
-
Wow thanks everyone!
Just to clarify to Joe, the 75kg Open world record is 340kg. U23 is 335kg. And in case anyone was wondering, I compete in the IPF which is drug tested! I intend on doing some 60m races over winter, and will NOT be breaking any rules regarding drug use.
-
Tom,
Just wondering, would a 400 lbs power clean be very easy for you? I’m also curious, how much has your deadlift improved/ increased in the last 1 year…?
-
In the last year, my deadlift has improved about 110 lbs.
400lb power clean…I have no idea, I haven’t done any in a long time. I did a pretty easy 315 about 6 months ago. I’m going to get some top quality coaching on the olympic lifts soon though, to go alongside my planned sprint training throughout the winter, so we’ll see! Most likely will be full clean though. I could certainly pull 400lbs high enough to clean it, very easily, it’s just a matter of getting under it! That’s the hard part… I’ve had olympic lifters I train with comment on my deadlift warmup sets, who were convinced I have enough speed with 260kg to get under it and rack it. I don’t have the balls though, and I DEFINITELY don’t have the front squat!

I’m not saying your on drugs but even in the tested comps, you know theres guys who have been using drugs for years prior to competing. This guy was meant to have done 360 Oleksandr Kutcher? I know theres loads of federations and rules. Is there 1 that deffinately has all the raw world records? I get confused when i have to look at equipped/unequipped, wraps/no wraps, tested/untested.
Good to see you havent left sprinting, if your new strength works for your 60 time i may re-consider competing and start deadlifting, according to that i need to add 45kg for raw wr. 110lbs improvement, is that from raw to suit or raw to raw? Either way how did you do that huge improvement without adding body weight?
-
Forgot to mention, from what i heard deadlift doesnt always correlate to the power clean Nick. Guy i know of clean and jerk 210 with a DL of 300, he added i think 40kg on his DL but is on about 200 clean. WR holder for the deadlift equipped Andy Bolton can deadlift about 460 and i read he did clean pulls with 320 but just couldnt clean. Another example, 1 of my training partners can clean 25kg more than me but can DL 20kg less. 1 more example, my friend can DL 240 and can only power clean 90.

I’ll try clear a few things up Joe :
The Kutcher guy you mentioned is a great deadlifter, he competes un tested though, I’m guessing sumo stance also. Imagine they had an untested track and field federation, and someone ran 100m in 9.4. Sure it’s an amazing performance and a world record under his conditions, but it wouldn’t be something the real tested track and field fed would be concerned with.
Incidentally, Ed Coan (the guy who’s record I beat) failed several drugs tests. Why records and wiped from the books in these circumstances I do not know.
I lift equipped, but just a single layer. You won’t see any 1000lb benches or 1300lb Squats in my sport. Multiple layers of lifting equipment is left to the untested feds, they don’t walk their squats out (monolift frame) and due to the excessive layers of equipment they can’t squat to parallel… They seem to be fine with this. I got a squat failed last week that was easily top of my legs at the hip joint 4″ below the top of my knees, I redid it and sat on the floor to make sure. It’s a different sport, mine is the original and all the drugged up multiple layers of suits made out of denim, HIGH Squats, bench press touching the belly button videos you see are an off shoot federation doing their own thing. It’s unfortunately harmful to the sport I compete in, as evidenced by your reaction to it. It would be equally as harmful if a group got together and invented anything goes, steroid mandatory extreme down hill track and field. It makes a joke out of everyone doing anything remotely similar.
Yes I lift in a deadlift suit. Unfortunately for me, I get 5kg maximum extra on my raw deadlif. As an example, before the world champs in September, I deadlifted 310kg raw. At the world champs I deadlifted 312.5kg equipped….. Great eh? I’ve recently deadlifted 310kg raw, while stood on a box 4″ higher than the floor. Oh and. 300kg straight leg deadlift!
The improvements I made since then were very quick, and I put it down to squatting 10x a week and deadlifting 4x a week, in a desperate attempt to beat the record before I turned 23.
IF I run a 60m pb this winter, it could well be because of my deadlif, I would imagine my hamstrings must be much stronger, regardless of how much back was used. I don’t think you build a 350kg deadlift without developping some hamstring strength?
It might also be that I squat 300kg+ 3/4 times a week too… That might help me run faster? I’m willing to find out though starting in a week!
