In sprinting, the deadlift seems to be somewhat of a controversial lift at this point. I think some of that may be much of the Ross Dogma, but do you use the deadlift (and it’s many variances) at all with you sprinters/middle distance athletes?
I’ve heard many criticize it for it’s lack of an eccentric component, Vern has mentioned that the make up of the fibers do not lend themselves well to the type of loading imposed by a typical deadlift.
On the plus side, you can get a lot of motor unit involvement and you are working the posterior chain quite heavily with correctly executed deadlifts.
When are you using them and how do you rationalize their use with track athletes?
