I’m a Junior in High School and after a injury plagued freshman and sophomore seasons I’m making my way back to the track. When I was a freshman before my injury (about three meets in) I had PR’d with an 11.6 in the 100m, and 23.7 in the 200m. My nagging groin injury afterwards lasted until a month into my sophomore track year, when I had bests at 11.71 in the 100m and 24.1 in the 200m.
Anyways, this year I’m doing much better. I’ve started my season with an 11.8 (terrible race, I took my hands off the track and leaned back about to get up after a gun malfunction when the inexperienced starter decided to reload and just fire it again)and a 23.61 in the 200m.
My next two meets I ran my 100m in 11.71… Then again in 11.70. My 2nd 200m race went great and I PR’d at 23.1.
My worry is that I might not be doing the right things to allow myself to fully achieve in the 100m, where I know I can perform better than I did my freshman year when I ran multiple 11.6s. Being the first race of the meet, I always find I run my 4x100m leg and 200m much better than my 100m, assuming it’s because I’m loosened up.
What would you guys recommend in terms of perhaps a proper warm up prior to my 100m, or just any tips in general. Really anything would help, I’d appreciate anything that could help me perform like I know I can.
