About a year ago I asked my throwers to do some static stretching after weights. I always try to put some thought into what I do and its order in the workout. I thought that static stretching after weights would help to relax and elongate the muscles after the shortening that would occur during Olympic lifts since they are primarially concentric. However, a a Finnish athlete that I was coaching at the time informed me that they don't have athletes stretch until at least 4 hours after a lifting session in Finland to help guarentee better adaptation. She said there were studies to back this up. I wasn't able to find them. In some ways this makes sense to me, but I would like to see the research, and get a little insight into the physiological reasons behind this. If anyone has seen any of this research or has any insight into this idea I would appreciate your help.
