    Florida State Strength Training Question

          I just read the Florida State strength training thread and was wondering why the strength coach does most of the strength work with below 80%?  Dont you build strength by going between 75-100% intensity?  Thank you for your responses.

          It's not quite that simple. You could theoretically develop maximal strength to very high levels with sub-maximal loads (70-80%) if you emphasize speed of movement. At loads above about 70% of maximum, force application is not limited by the load itself. That is you could (and in many cases should) easily apply maximal force to submaximal loads…in which case the bar will move much faster. The benefit of heavier loads (85+%) is that it pretty much ensures maximal or near-maximal force application because if that force isn't applied the lift will fail / be missed.

          I'm not saying this is what they're doing since I really don't know but it could work just fine.
