I've read many other threads that discuss the topic of which foot to put forward on blocks, but I'm still a little confused.
On my body, my right side is dominant–right eye, right ear, right arm, and right leg. As someone mentioned in another thread:
When someone pushes you from behind, or you lean forward til you catch yourself, the leg that catches you is your smart leg, and should go back in the blocks. Your strong leg goes forward in the blocks, that will be your explosiveness and push out of the blocks, since you're exploding out horizontally (or you should) from the blocks, your smart leg will come forward and catch you.
The problem i have with this, is that it assumes that one leg is smart, while the other is more powerful–in my case, my smart leg IS my powerful leg, which I use and kick and push off. If i go according to this, my right leg should be back (powerful) or it should be in front (smart)?
Because of this, I'm sort of confused. I know my right leg is dominant, yet I'm not sure whether I should have it thrust up (like in high jump, where you thrust your knee up into the air) or push off the block.
In the past (i,e, 3 months ago in May) i used to push off my right foot, yet it always felt wrong, to have my left, weaker foot thrust into the air to propel me. I felt that my right foot should be doing this, yet when i think of having my left, weaker foot push off the block, I wonder whether i should do that, since all the topics I've seen on this forum have it the other way.
My smart leg IS my push off leg, so which leg should i put back on the blocks?
If i were to estimate, my left foot is at around 9/10s the strength of my right foot, and my right foot just feels more comfortable, kinda like how your right hand is usually stronger than your left hand.
I run a 11.3 100 meter a 23.84 200 meter and a 53.94 400 meter.
If anyone could answer my question, it'd greatly appreciate it, since i'm not sure whether to start training my left foot to make my legs somewhat ambidextrous.
when using blocks, can you set both equal to each other and push off both feet? then i could have my right foot come forward and catch myself with it.
