Four Years No Hamstring Pulls

          This may be hard to believe but in my last four years we have not had a hamstring pull. Now we have had some great things happen over the past four years in our sprint program. Most recently we finished our season with a 2nd place finish in the 4×100 relay at the Class 4 (Largest Schools) State Championships.           That’s great! Please provide more info if you have time. How lengthy are your stretching and drill routines? Are they rotated on a random basis through the year or is there some ordering method?

          i’m interested to hear your methods. unfortunately our fastest girl tweaked her hammy at the conference meet this year … she did it performing some dynamic stretches not on our warm-up menu …

          We’ve been able to avoid catastrophic type injuries as well. I’ve also found that some symptoms to these issues can be roughly diagnosed at the onset during warmups and cooldowns. Like this one, Carl’s entry on hamstring injuries was quite useful.

          Mach drills = specific strength through a range of motion and dynamic flexibility as well as coordination, stabilization, and mobility exercises.

          It is what it is, you can’t look at things in isolation, that is the purpose of research and not of application. Preventing hamstring injury or any injury, is about the training plan as a whole and how the coach deals with the athletes and the feedback they give the coach about how they are dealing with the physical stress of practice and competition.

          Sure they strengthen the hamstring, but as with all training they produce stress and stress/fatigue accumulates as does fitness. They alone are not a good reason to say they prevent hamstring injuries. Injuries are often caused by overtraining or under training to the demands of skill and fitness required by competition and the skill and the fitness of the athlete. Having success and having little to no injuries is about the training plan and the coach listening to his athletes and understanding them.

          Guys I noticed I left out three set of drills. This most recent document have majority of my drills.
