    Future Hamstring Problems?

          I am just coming off a “level 2” hamstring pulll/ter/whatever. I was wondering if with this kind of injury am I more succeptable to getting this injury again in the same spot? If so, what can I do to prevent it, because I don’t want this to happen again at the time that it did (Conference championships). The thing I’m afraid of is that the injury came without any warning, in fact, that day my hamstrings felt the best that they have in like a month from a previous injury.

          You will definitely be more prone to another hamstring injury. To pre-hab the hamstrings, make sure you restore it to normal flexibility, strengthen it with a focus on it’s use as a hip extensor, address any scar tissue problems that may exist, and check to see if your glute is functioning properly as inadequate glute firing has been implicated as a potential risk factor for hamstring injuries. Also be sure to have someone check your sprint mechanics as poor touchdown location places a greater load on the hamstrings.
