I was a mediocre (~6k) decathlete who had the misfortune of going to a small school with practically no coaching and less facilities for 3 years but lucked out because my school record will probably stand the test of time since the school has since dropped their men’s track program. I finished my eligibility at Ohio University where I spent most of my time rehabbing from a major surgery and other various injuries developed from years of overtraining.

Track is my main love, but I also dabbled in martial arts when I was younger and I cheerleaded for a year too in HS. (BTW- I am a guy. People sometimes get confused when I bring up cheerleading)

I find an overwhelming joy in sprinting. However, I also play fast-pitch softball(Centre Fielder*best fielder in the entire league), I partook in martial arts, mainly Tae Kwon Do,during my earlier years, and I do Downhill biking.

I’ve been training for about 9 months and within that period, the last 2-3 months have been intense.

I dunno what its called spesifically], but I am studying sport science at High School

3 Are you an athlete, coach, or other?

          Athlete, yup..

4 What sports do you compete/coach?

Sprints, babe. My coaches change from time to time 🙂

          5. How long have you been training?

Since I was able to walk, hehe. I started with cross country-skiing and soccer. I started training martial arts at 9 and maintaining that while I also did middle- and longdistance running. In the winter I would/will sometimes do some downhill skiing (slalom and such). I have also considered bodybuilding, but I will wait doing that until I am older if I dont become a sprinting track champ (which I will 😀 )

Athlete, Coach, Researcher, and Nut case

I still compete in open meets in distances from 100 to 800. I decided to give up jumps except for indoor pentathlon if I could ever find one, I run the occasional road, trail races, some euro-style XC stuff. I also play basketball, soccer, beach volleyball, softball, and sandlot football whenever I get the chance.

I have been training since I was ten years old when I won 200, 400, 800, and 1600 runs in one summer meet. I ran a 5k a year later by training the only way I then knew how, I ran a mile hard one day and added a quarter mile each day running as hard as I could till I got to 3.5 miles. This took 3 weeks and went out and ran the 5k in 19:47 at 11 years old. Taking 3rd place age division 19 and under and 25th overall. Then I procede to take a slackers lifestyle until I went to the USMC. There I rededicated myself to running and started turning sub 16’s in 5k and sub 33’s in 10ks and the rest is unknown history.

No formal education in running/physiology/kinesiology.  Just what I pick up on places like this, an occasional medical or science journal, stuff like that.  Good news is that I almost never forget something I read.

Right now, doing my degree in International Relations.  Thinking about switching to kinesiology just because being a track coach would be awesome.  Might just take some USATF stuff instead though.  Will figure that out when the time comes.

Athlete at college, coach when I'm back near my highschool for more then a few days at a time.

I've played every sport known to man I think…including Basketball, Baseball, soccer, football, rugby, cricket, volleyball, Tennis, track (from 100m to 800m), martial arts, and thats all that comes to mind right now.

Training.  Hah.  I didn't do any of that before college.  Closest I came was daily plyos in highschool.  Didn't really train that much my freshman year of college either, because I was constantly injured.  Think my longest streak of being uninjured was like 7 weeks throughout the year.  Was a horrible year for me.  Actually plannin to train hard this year, and to not get hurt (Screw you, stairs!)

4 What sports do you compete/coach?  Compete in Track and Field, Also done Baseball, Basketball in the past

          5. How long have you been training?  Well never really had consistant training in my career, started running freshman year of HS with one coach, then he quit and I had another coach soph year, then I moved had a different coach. My junior year was the best training I've had, it was more sprint training than just getting in shape training. That year is where I got all my PB's. Senior year had the same coach and everything but I tore my hamstring indoors before I could run any good meets and I was done for all of indoor and outdoor. Hopefully now in College everything will turn around for me and I can get some stability in my training.

I know I've been on this site for a while, but I figured I'd let people know where I'm coming from…

          1.  Originally from Syracuse NY, now living in Greenville North Carolina.

          2.  BS in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science from Cortland State in New York.  Currently working on my MA in Biomechanics at East Carolina University.

          3.  Former HS and D3 athlete.  Best event was the 400IH (54.46).  Have some HS coaching experience in my off time from undergrad.  Now I'm a volunteer assistant coach at ECU, coaching the men's hurdlers and soon to be horizontal jumpers starting next season.

          4.  HS football and basketball player.  Primary sport was track and field.  Ran track in undergrad, lettered 4 years.  I coach D1 track at ECU.

          5.  Trained for about 10 years by the time I was done.  Not doing much right now in terms of training, but not ruling out the possibility of getting back into it.

Welcome to the board. If you want to get 'certified' find a USATF Level 1 school in your area and go to it. When you're done with that sign up for the Level 2 school…you won't be dissapointed.

i live in New Zealand, yes that is a real country…

no sports education, just a lot of reading, i study law at uni so not a lot of time for extra learning!!!

i run middle and long distances, but i can throw in a decent sprint if i need to. ok i lie its very average but for a future 10000m runner sub 12 isnt bad i guess.

been running for three years, seriously for one year. previously a cyclist, before that a swimmer. found running the only one that i actually enjoy.

i coach young kids, once a week, for our harrier club,  some of them provincial record holders for age groups. more of an athlete though.

ok thats about it. oh and im 19. exciting stuff aye.
