Some of you may have seen in my journal, I tweaked my hamstring at Mt. Sac Relays. About 60m into the race, right as I shifted into full speed running, it gave out. First time I’ve ever injured a hamstring – felt like someone was reaching in to my leg with both hands and pulling the muscle apart laterally.
I shut it down immediately, and walked it in. Immediately iced and continued to do so for next 3 days. As well as some ART at hamstring insertion points. Pain spread a little bit but still localized in the belly of the hamstring on the muscle closest to the femur (not the one on the surface).
No noticeable swelling or discoloration. Definite pain when pressure is applied. Gentle static stretching does not bother me that much. Feels like localized soreness.
When attempting easy (70% effort) acceleration runs today, I felt acute pain by approximately the 4th step.
Am interested in a few different points of view on rehab for this. Including – exercises, stretching, therapy, alternatives that hit the same physical capabilities as my core workouts.
