    Hamstrings

          I am a triple jumper. For my hamstrings I do deadlift with straight legs. But that makes me very slow. What should I do for hamstrings for make them fast?

          straight leg or stiff legged deadlifts are a CNS killer. It also works the back extensors more than the hamstrings, but the hamstrings get worked although not for extension at the hip, but to keep postural stability throughout the lift. Wearing out your back extensors isn’t the greatest idea for speed in lifting or running. I recommend a regular deadlift session using a regular stance and maybe even use a hexbar. You’ll be slow because your back extensors are burnt, fried, and crispy. That’s my 2 cents.

          Modify Russian hamstring curls. Adopt a position that is close to isometric at a point where you can just hold yourself. Pulse in and out of this position. If you know how much contraction time you need for the triple jump, try and mimic this contraction time.

          Go easy at first.

          Oh…if it improves your tj don’t tell anyone.

          Good Mornings still use the hamstrings as a stabilizer mostly.

          how about straight leg bounding? include it as part of your warm-up on high intensity days. it is an excellent exercise for injury prevention and is more specific to speed than any weightroom exercise. and for the weightroom … the glute-ham raise is quite effective.
