ok so i was looking at the track team of the college im going to and im considering joining the team. their short hurdlers arent very impressive (15.03), and who knows maybe ill have a place on their relay team. i believe their fastest guy runs 10.73. i havent talked to the coaches yet. i guess my question is, ill be a junior when i transfer there, and is there any added benefits to running track for my school? could i possibly get some school money out of it? i can always run for a club, my place in school is strictly academic.
help me with college track

D3 schools do give atheltic scholarships, they just disguise them under names of "leadership awards" and stuff like that.

Men, If you knew anything about D3, you would know that athletes are NOT the only students getting "academic" aid with less than stellar GPA's. The entire student body gets financial aid. It is not based on athletic prowess as hardly anybody pays full sticker price at the D3 schools.

ok well i dont think my school is d3 anyways. the again, i know virtually nothing about how colleges work. ill be starting there in january, will that be a problem for joining their track team?

Even the worst collegiate teams are better than 99% of all clubs out there. Most clubs consist of average to very good HS, middle school and masters athletes who don't practice as often or as consistently and don't have equivalent facilities to even the most mediocre university track teams.

I can guarantee you that less than 25% of the people on my team got any sort of financial aid. I got zero financial aid from my DIII U even when my parents had three kids in school. At my school and all the other schools in my area, there is no such thing as a 'hidden' athletic scholarship.

I am on the Shore AC Club team which won club nationals in New York this summer. We have a ton of sick athletes on the team, all of which, train on their own. Our coach recruits athletes who are talented and are still training. He does do a great job with helping with the travel and entry fees, which tend to add up rather quickly!!!
I would not recommend it to an athlete who does not already have a solid training/coaching base already since you are just expected to do everything on your own.

i just checked, its a d1 school. as for clubs vs. college, im just looking for good coaching. i dont want to run under anymore coaches whose knowledge i dont have faith in. im going to try and get a hold of a coach as soon as i send in my application.

This seems to be how most of the sub-elite development clubs are. The Indiana Invaders however seem to do a decent job of having things a little more organized.
