Hey everyone just needed some help with one of my triple jumpers. My one female jumper is a 40ft jumper returning from last year. For an approach she takes 8 strides. She recently has become extremly inconsistent at the takeoff as she may vary as far out as 2ft from her other jumps when I mark 6 runs “Boardless” I have done motion analysis and have done coaches marks. Her first meet she went 38 mid, but fouled 2 well over 40ft. What else may I be missing. I figure that I must be over looking somthing along the lines of her steering mechanics. I was able to fix her pushing mechanics from the drive phase to transition, but that has not fully eleviated the problem. I do not have an indoor track here at the college, but we have a hallway over 70m with rollouts. So side angles for filming are impossible. Only Front and back. So I would be able to only post those videos which are limited in getting the “big Picture”. Her speed is great through the take off, but she is just struggling with being a bit behind or over. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tough one to answer without some video. You said this is a recent issue. How long is recent? Weeks, months?
I usually find that if there is inconsistencies like this, it usually can be traced back to the first few steps. Especially if they are off by a few feet. You said that you have used coaching marks, Is she consistent with those?

well for 2 weeks roughly. Had a month off due to break, and was at the same place as before. The coaching marks she is dead on with the few misses here and there do to the runway slipping from time to time. I’m going to be filming her from the side at the meet this weekend so I would be able to post those videos. Also have been looking at her gate and heel recovery which are actually better than they were last year.

If she is on at the check marks, then the issue seems to be the last few steps. If you are using a check mark at four steps back from the board and she is fouling by as much as two feet means that she is lengthening her last four strides an average of about 6 inches each. If that is the case, that leads me to believe there are two possibilities. The first one is that she is reaching her top speed before the board (approach might be too long), and the second one is that she is not accelerating on those last four strides. She is letting her strides “hang”
What is strange, is usually if someone is fouling by that much it is rarely b/c of their last few strides. Once you are able to post the video, then maybe we can figure it out.
