    help with custom 800 program??

          alright everyone i have a task at hand that could be kinda hard.  i just got done running a marathon (10/1) 3:15, first ever, not too bad. 

          anyhow, the deal is that i made a bet with my former college roomate that I could
          a). run under 3:20 marathon check and
          b).  run under 2:00 in the 800 for the indoor season. 

          i know it seems pretty hard, but i think i am more than up to it.  what do you guys think?  i have a very general plan and layout of what to do.  does anyone want to help me thru this process?  if so i would greatly appreciate it!!!!!!

          also your 800m time to see how close you are? its much easier if you have gone under two minutes prior to this season.

          alright, i totally forgot to tell you a little bit of who i am.  i ran at uwm (milwaukee) in 00-02.  in that time i had 400 times in the 48's and had a pr of 1:57.3.  now it is 4 years later, i obviously run a lot and am very passionate about it.  this college roomate of mine, who was on the team, thinks it is impossible for me to go under 2.  i coach cc and this season for finish work we did some 400's, the last one we did I ran a 1:04 comfortably.  tired but not pushing real hard at all.  i think i have it, but want to know what you guys think.

          6 ft. 165lbs.  looking to still shave about 5lbs.  i really need a weight program, diet, and perhaps some pill info.  right now all i do is a multi and some fish oil.  i have looked at all the threads, so the supplement thing isnt a big deal.  i just want a good program.

          First of all, congrats on your first marathon.  Big step. 

          What is positive is the fact that you should have a pretty large foundation from your marathon training.  Provided you train properly, you can certainly go sub-2 with your previous exploits as my evidence.  My recommendations as to what I'd have you running would be based upon the date of your goal attempt(s).  Is a date or even a loose timeframe available?

          I'd have to know more about the type of program you were doing to train for the marathon but it should go without saying that with your aerobic fitness level that you should focus more on shorter (150m-400m) faster reps for the majority of your week.

          yea if you a 3:15 marathon you are obviously fairly fit for an 800m runner. so work on getting that 400m time down. You have broken two minutes before, so the mental barrier wont be quite so bad. try a day of 10 x 200m in 30 seconds each with walk back recovery. that will get you used to the tempo of a two minute 800m.

          thank you, general.  let put a date of around mid-indoor season, so like first part of february to mid-february.

          i made up my own program and just went for it, long runs on the weekends up to 22 miles, then some mile repeat work, some 800 work (yassos), tempo stuff.  since you dont "really" do speed workout for a marathon, i just used all of those to get used to going faster for a longer distance.  i was aiming for under 7:15's but obviously failed to meet that goal.  this next goal of under 2 is what i really want to hit.  i know i can do that, and i want to win this bet.

          along with actual 800m pace training, do sessions at you 400m pace. we do 3 sets (with 5 minutes recovery between sets) of 3 x 150m at 400m pace. this will work on your speed. it works for me and the guys that i train with and we have all broken two minute OR 50 seconds for the 800m OR 400m.

          is there anyone willing to help stamp out a program with me?  i hope so, because the coach i will be running for doesnt have much of a clue for my situation.  i already have the base more than anyone needs for the 800, i just want to work on speed development, and some power.  yesterday ran a 400's 66, 60, 56, and 55.  just starting to get used to going faster!  does doing 200's in 25, and seeing how many you can do until you cant hold pace anymore help.  maybe once a week and work your way up, therefore going out in 27-28 would seem rather reasonable.  or 400's in 53-55, same concept.

          well if there is anyone out there willing to help, i would galdly accept.  thank you in advance.
