    Help with rehab program for sprinter

          A friend of mine (closet viewer-non participant of EliteTrack)
          has an athlete coming of a broken foot. She is a HS sprinter and he is looking for suggestions as to training/rehab between now and spring.

          Anyone want to chime in with suggestions, or experiences in this general area? She has access to pool, weights, etc., and has been told by Dr that jumping and squating are out for a while.

          hit the pool…have her do some pool workouts…if you have brent mcfarlane’s science of speed and hurdling he has a good pool workout section in that book..if you don’t then let me know and i will post it. but since yo need your foot to run/jog/sprint and since you said jumping and squatting are out, the pool is theb est place to get an aerobic base and to get soem weight work done, have her do some ab work, upperbody lifting etc. also have her do some leg curls and leg extensions since you do not need your feet for those.

          One of my pole vaulters has a broken tibia right now. She’s doing pool running, walking sprint drills (in a boot), most of the normal weight lifting (she can’t squat but she can clean), and free-wheel running where she supports herself by her hands on a dip stand and tries to “run” as fast as possible…..it looks ridiculous but should help maintain leg speed.
