This is my first year coaching high school track and I just found this board last night. I must say that I’m really impressed with the amount of knowledge here. I have been teaching people how to jump for many years and really enjoy the desire for improvement from some of the young folks on the board. Some of my pr’s are
TJ-51’7
LJ-24’3
800-1:47
400-46:7
HJ-6’8

welcome, do you still run open meets or do you just coach and where do you coach?
-
Because I started coaching again and My kids are starting to compete(jumps of course). I decided to try and compete in the florida sunshine games this summer. I refuse to let my niece beat me(she is a 43ft TJ and 20ft LJ) but last month I did damage to my hip flexor and it is basically shutting me down. I coach at a small HS school in florida mainly as a favor for a friend but now I’m really starting to enjoy it. There is not much talent there but I love the challange, and some of the kids are responding well.

Sorry about the delay, here are some of my pr’s on a yearly basis in high school and what I think caused the improvement.
9th TJ- 40’7 just starting to learn the event
10th TJ- 43’8 improving with no training watching old 8mm tapes of jumpers trying to do the phases the correct way.
11th TJ-44’8 Not much improvement, without a coach I’ve hit a plateu.
12th TJ-46’10 At state championship and later 49’7 at TAC nationals 5th place in bloomington. I know there will be skeptics but to this day I credit this incredible improvement from one single source, The forced introduction of cross country into my life. Yes you read it right .I was forced by my coach to run CC and my verticle leap increased by 12 inches. It motivated me so much that it energized my training and the introduction of plyometrics has been a staple in life ever since. I think I’m as old school as you can get and If there is a hill somewhere close to your home than you have everything you need for a successful training regiment.
Here is one little trick I had for my TJ. I would record the audio of my jumps, first the entire jump than break down each phase. Using a stop watch I would calculate how much time each phase lasted and a total time. My goal was to have even foot strike times and than add length to those times. It was a challange but just another fun training aid.Like I said OLD SCHOOL. train hard, have fun . -
Hi, also I`m new here!!!
I`ve found the site by searching some material about steeplechase beacuse i wanted to try something new in my training… I`ve found a lot of material about track and field, and that is really important for me because my coach live really far from me and i`ve to train alone!! I`m really young (18 years in August) and run 3000m and 1500m, so i need some help and i`think i can get it from this forum and this site!!
So, congratulations!!! 😀
