I tried practicing hurdles a couple times last summer, but need to start since I’ll be doing decathlon next year. I think one of the big issues I had may do with my trail leg flexibility. Sometimes I’d get off balance going over the hurdle, or get a sharp pain on the inside of the hip flexor/thigh/groin area. I’ve noticed that when I try to do hurdle walkovers as a mobility exercise (hurdles just low enough that I can barely walk over them), I get the first leg over fine. However I can’t get the trail leg over without opening up my hips to the side. I’m wondering if this is a flexibility issue that’s causing problems over the hurdles (opening the hips up over the hurdle possibly). I really haven’t had a one on one hurdle coach watch. I honestly am not sure if I’m doing the mobility drills right. I got most of them online, and most online resources list exercises without descriptions. Maybe opening the hips up is acceptable in walkovers? Also, should I try to maintain a tall torso for walkovers?
