I’ve onyl had two seasons under my belt, and both have followed a similar pattern;
Start badly, big PB in May, awful June, PB mid July
By races do you mean individual races or meets on a whole?
meets on a whole

meets on a whole[/quote]
3-4 meets with rounds (or meets with 2-3 races per meet. Plus 3-4 heavy duty intrasquad meets or smaller (less competitive) meets.
6-8 meets/15 full effort timed runs.
I suspect that those with a greater training age and/or more competitive experience can get there in fewer.

I agree with Matt – the larger your training age, the less it takes to peak. I would like to think 2nd or 3rd comp I would be at more or less the level I want to be at, minus perhaps 0.05s for taper etc.
Case in point –
2007 – 1st race 10.29 (incl rounds – 10;58,10.49), 2nd comp 10.22 (tailwind but rain), 3rd comp 10.15 PB, 4th comp 10.16…..6th comp 10.14 PB
2008 – 1st comp 10.38 (headwind), 2nd comp 10.23 (headwind), 3rd comp 10.23 (-2 wind), 4th comp 10.19 …. season peak 10.15 -
Are you talking to me?
I assume you are – Its important to get to a good level very early on, then close to the major champs you do a taper, which, combined with the extra adrenaline of the event, should enable you to get quicker. In that way, a “peak” doesnt really exist. I dont start off running 10.5, then get quicker and quicker until I reach my peak, then get slower after that. I start off (ideally) running at or around 10.2ish, stay at or around that level, and maybe get to 10.1ish at the big races.

And also I need to make the team, which means running 10.21 twice by July 5th, and being in the top two at the trials, or the discretionary pick!
