    How much can I train

          I’m 25 yrs old and have never run track, but I would like to increase my speed for touch football (only sport left for me at my age), and I love to train. I have very good top speed and an avg start, and have no problem running away from people on the field.

          I’m 6’3 and a very lean 210lbs. I weight train every body part one day a week. I also do plyo’s with strength shoes 3 days a week and now I would like to add sprint training into my routine. I work at a very cardio entensive job but I have a very well planned and strict diet so the added activity will not be a problem from that angle.

          I have no clue as to my max lifts, but the highest weight I use for 6 reps is 275lbs in the bench, 365lbs dead lift, and 405lbs in the squat (to 90 degree’s)

          So what I need to know is should I add sprint training 3 days a week on the days I’m not doing plyo’s. Also what should I focus on and what would be the best things to do for my sprint training. thanks for any help you can give.

          I wouldn’t recommend alternating days of sprinting and plyos. Your body would never have an opportunity to rest and recuperate. Doing sprint work 3x a week is ok but you’d probably either want to pair it with your plyos and reduce the volume of plyos. As for exact workouts, I’d suggest as a football guy, you’d probably want to spend most of your time and energy working on acceleration development, or sprints of less than 30m. Early on in your training you could maybe do 2 days of acceleration development, and 1 day of agility work and then progress to 1 day of acceleration development, 1 day of maxV running and 1 day of agility work.
