When sprinting at maximum speed, which movements should the sprinter be actively concentrating on?
For example, during the arm swing, should sprinters concentrate on swinging the arms with full range of motion, or should the sprinter only actively move the hands from 'lip to hip'?
Also, should the sprinter consciously use the hip flexors to bring the swing leg knee forward during the recovery phase? If so, is the focus on bringing the knee upwards, fowards, or both? I've read that during this phase, the foot should should step over the opposite knee. Should the athlete actively contract the hamstrings to to this, or does leg naturally fold when the knee swings forward? Is it beneficial to focus on stepping even higher, or is just stepping over the knee sufficient?
Should the sprinter consciously stamp the foot down to initiate a new stride? Is the focus on down and back, or just down?
What about dorsiflexion? Is this something that naturally occurs or does it actually require the athlete to actively contract the muscles to do this?
Should the athlete even concentrate on the legs? Or should the athlete only concentrate on the arm swing, since whatever the arms do, the legs will follow?
