    I’m a mess

          I have major muscle imbalance issues. First off I have mild scoliosis, my left shoulder stands taller than my right, the muscle between my ribs and hips (is this the hip flexor?) the one on the right is strong but compresed and the one on the left is stretched and weak. FInally my left leg acts as if its shorter than my right leg. So my left quad is very injury prone. How should I approach my problem? What kind of doctor am I supposed to see.

          At the state you seem to be in I'm hesitant to give an online prescription. Your best bet would be to see an osteopath or soft tissue therapist.

          My son has that problem. His shoulders and hips are out of alignment.  He got some quad injuries last year.  He had an X ray and the doctor placed him with a Physical therapist.  He does exercise to strengthen both sides of his body ie swimming, hangs on a pull up bar to stretch the muscles, works on his core strength, some other exercises to stretch and strengthen symmetrically.

          bluesmagoo, how is his progress? is he able to run and lift efficiently, especially deadlifts, squats, cleans?

          He's a 14 year old but he does deadlift, bench press and some plyos.  Plays HS basketball and hasn't had any problems since he started the therapy.  You should see your primary doctor and try to get some PT sessions

          mike, do you have any input?v How do centers like HPC usually treat scoliosis? For example, could I go to a few sessions a week for a few weeks and make drastic improvements so I can go less often afterwards, because my time is very tight, I need to get ready for my track season ASAP.

          Like I said earlier, the guys I went to had me on my feet running hard within a month.  I would call them soft tissue/Rolfing people as to their profession.  I'm certain you can find a similar practice around your part.

          The treatment type and duration will depend on the extent, location and direction of the curvature. In some cases the treatment could be as simple as corrective stretching, strengthening, and manipulative exercises that wouldn't be disruptive to training at all. If the problem is more serious you would likely do best to see a physician.
