How much lower body work are you guys performing during the season? I know some coaches on the forum only train lower once per week, while other back squat twice per week.

Im keeping my cool and doing my regular 2x per week squats, as april comes, Ill cut it down to 1x per week and cut the intensity and total lifting volume.

I’ll do as much as 3x per week in the weight room pretty much all the way through. I don’t think I ever reduce to 1x but I do sometimes go to 2x / week. I prefer to reduce total volume and change the type of stimulus (or keep it exactly the same as the case may be late in the competitive season) rather than reduce frequency.

Most athletes dont have the resources to lift 3 times per week during the season unless friday session is only ol’s etc. I dont mind during one squat session and maybe another session of jump squats or spilt jumps but to ask the athlete to squat 2x per week is very diffcult.

Yeah….even if we go 3x a week we’d typically only squat 1x with just OL or unilateral auxillary work on the other days. On rare occasions I’ve used some moderate reps, moderate weight deep squats to loosen up the hips and get some GH flowing.

I like the unilateral work but it can cause some major soreness at times which during the season isnt good. I like how DP setup his inseason strength program for the sprinters, little squatting but tons of jumps.

How much specific work do you guys do with the hamstrings during the season? If you are doing proper squats and olympic lifts, how much do you need to specifically target the hamstrings with things like rdls, ghr, and leg curls?

You could probably get away with 2 sessions, for example monday rdl 2×5 and wed hypers 2×10.
