Anyone who’s followed my past couple of blogs will know I’ve had a terrible time with injuries. However, this summer I managed to a run a basic 10.90 off a very limited training base. I began my season in May having only started training in January, and only got an accumulated amount of about 12 weeks trainign done in that period. I tore my hammy in two places in mid May (2nd race) and didn’t race again until the beginning of August. I managed to get 5 races in between then and early September with no big problems.
In 2010 when I was running well, my top speed was very, very good and my coach wanted me to run a 200. I declined as I was chasing the world juniors standard for Ireland of 10.64. However, at the Irish Junior champs the 100m was a straight final; I ran a pb of 10.73 from cold, already knowing I was going to win (no adrenaline) and without caffiene. I decided then to run the 200 because I thought I may as well get another race in whilst I was there and thats when I broke down with a hammy tear and a lot of injuries started to pile up over the next year.
But now I’m ready to finally step up to 200s. My start is too poor for the 100 and there’s a lot more improvement to be made over 200m through training. A painful winter (havent had one since 09/10) starts here
Here’s a previous log from 2010 if anyone is interested
