So let’s say there is an athlete who has deca potential in high school. Solid speed even without much of a strength base (late beginning weight training), but starting to improve in the weight room. Coordinated, good general work capacity, not injury prone, enthusiastic, all that stuff is good. Best part is, the athlete’s specialties at the moment are 100h and PV and is very good at both.
The problem is this. Through most of the season there are two meets a week, so to large extent one has to rely on “competing into shape” to a large extent. Because of this, I find it worrisome to, for lack of a better word, waste events for this athlete by being introduced to technical events at the expense of running more sprints and hurdles that are paramount to training.
Does anyone what I’m saying here? Any thoughts?
