    Lapierre’s flight technique?

Hey guys. I was looking through the flight techniques of the best jumpers, and I wasn’t sure about Lapierre’s.

In this video (you might have to replay a few times), it looks like he does a sail or stride technique, then puts both feet into the air and lands.

on this one (slow motion at :20) he does the sail/stride again, then reverses his feet, then puts both feet into the air to land.

What exactly is this flight technique called? is it the 1.5 cycle hitch?

i would call it a delayed hitch. Not that it matters. Sometimes delaying the time of the kick helps

what is the norm? 2.5? Phillips for instance does the full hitch, is that 2.5 or 3?

yea, I realized it’s just hitch kick. Just threw me off because it doesn’t look like he’s cycling like Dwight’s

”If Usain and I could combine forces – his speed and my technique, because I have the best technique in the world at the moment – we could do some crazy things, like really fly,”

What do you think about that? best technique in the world at the moment?

meh… personally i think he jumps too high. I remember seeing one chart from the Berlin LJ competition, and he had the biggest loss of horizontal speed at take-off because he jumps too high. So his LJ looks awesome but overall distance doesn’t match up with the big guys

He is not the fastest long jumper by far…therefore he has to jump high to jump 8.20m which he usually jumps. His technique isn’t the best overall in my opinion.

          In my opinion:

          Best approach = Phillips
          Best Takeoff = Lapierre
          Best landing = Reif
