During the squat exercise would it be more benefical to do them as full, half or quarter, while strickly focusing on muscle fiber recruitment, and ignoring the other benefits of having a greater range of motion?
This is a complex question. Fiber recruitment is affected by more than load and range of motion. The speed of movement and fatigue also have big effects on recruitment. The answer to your question depends on your objective. If you’re trying to develop the most musculature through a full ROM, than full squats is the answer. If you’re trying to overload the quads and glutes than half or quarter squats may be a better alternative.
