I'm just starting to do this lift and I'm wondering if I should keep the reps high (8-10) for a while as opposed to starting off with sets of 5 and under.
No. Keep reps at 5 and do more sets which will = higher volume and reinforce proper technique.
Quik,
Do you/your students do your mulit rep sets without any pauses between reps? We've experimented with 15-30sec pauses between reps in a 5 rep set. The purpose was to maintain better lifting form on reps 2-5, i.e., no bounce etc. Have you done any of this, and if so what do you think about it?
star61, You should try both. For ordinary 5 rep sets make sure that there is a definite "reset", or I say "do the reps as individuals".
I have had good success with 5-6 singles 30 secs apart. That is especially good if someones form usually looks different from reps 2-5 compared with the first rep. Also it is good for people who have high rep strength vs single strength. They can't get into a grinding rhythm.
