Good stuff. I have to watch the archives later.
I wish they had FAT timing at this. That way we would know how fast these guys really are. To be honest I ma not impressed with any hand times.

The NFL upgraded their timing system to something like the Speed Trap II timing system.

You 100% sure, so these numbers we are hearing are not hand times?
          That would be cool.

Def. use them. We do our sprints on our turf field sometimes since it is a hike to the nearest track. They work quite well. What have the combine guys been wearing. Don't tell me the top guys are running in trainers?

Most of the top guys wear racing flats (spikes with no spikes). It's good to see the timing system being used. The funny thing though is that many coaches / scouts will still hand time the dashes and treat their hand time as the real standard.

Although very different from the 40; many of the best cross country athletes use track spikes on grass courses.  I personally love the feel of them, but others may disagree.  It would seem to be more of a matter of opinion.

I think they'd definitely help but you'd want to use longer spikes than what is typically used on a rubberized track to get the most benefit.

why longer spikes, i think longer spikes would dig deeper into the ground and slow u down??

The spikes have to get through the grass to be able to stick. On grass tracks (which are still used in some parts of the country and in the caribean) athletes frequently use longer spikes. Also, javelin throwers who have to throw on grass frequently use spikes up to an inch in length. While I don't think you'd want to use spikes that long, I do think something longer than the standard 1/4 inch would be beneficial.

i still think the times are pretty good, bc the db from clemson hes the 60m champ and ran 4.3's, huff from univ texas ran 6.8 in the 60m and he 4.3's.

good to know. Why dont you research all the guys who ran the 40 who also ran track and post a chart of there 60 times and 40 times so we can make comparrisons. That would be pretty cool.

As long as you use the same method on everyone then at least you have a baseline from which to evaluate

Here is a link to an interesting article that appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer about a place that helps people prepare for the combine.

Mid 4.3s are at least realistic times….a far cry from the inflated 4.1 hand times that you always hear about.

Some interesting stuff.  But all in all, I agree with quik, I put about as much faith in "partically automatic timing" as I would in hand timing.

what u guys fail to see is all those guys that run 4.3 they are pretty damn fast no matter how u time them, bc track guys have fast tracks, spikes, blocks etc these guys dont. also most of the fast guys there could probably run you a fast 55 or 60 and even 100m ask JJ bc the u of m have had many fb guys run track for them. take mike huff he ran like 4.3 but he also ran 10.3's at univ of texas. my point is all those guys there who run fast times are fast no matter how u time them. the surface they are running on field turf is slow arse hell, i know first hand.
