No Longer Invincible! Gay Beat Bolt!

Bump so it hits the front page 🙂
Bolt was struggling hard. He’s out of shape!
-
Definitely. He can’t even guarantee a win anymore, let alone the promise of a new meet record every time he steps on the track. Appearance fees are going to plummet for him (comparatively speaking that is. He’ll still make more than anyone else more than likely.
-
Too much partying, too many additional appearances don’t you all think.
It seems like every interview with Mills he discusses how they have not been able to train as much as he would like because of his schedule.
-
Its going to be a kick in the ass for him next year. WC year means more promotion, heavier schedule and more intense training. Something is going to give and if this is any indication it will be his world title.

I think he is too much of a competitor when it is on the line. He has stated numerous times he is taking this season easy and if anyone is going to beat him it better be now. HE’s clearly more interested in promoting his brand right now.
I would imagine Gay will get hurt again next year.
-
Seems to be the trend for Gay, unfortunately. Maybe he’ll hold back on early WR attempt races given that its a longer and more important season and he’ll stay healthier a bit longer
-
I think this is fantastic for the sport.
First, the top two sprinters actually raced each other outside of a championship.
Second, it adds a bit of drama to the sport. Underdog Beats Inhuman Champion. It’s kinda like when Mad Max beat Master-Blaster in Thunderdome… unreal.
Personally I would love to see more match-ups like this throughout the season. It seems like the top women sprinters and all of the hurdlers, both men and women, butt heads at every major meet, but the male sprinters seem to avoid each other.

Priceless…

This needs to be on the front page 🙂

Isn’t it a tiny bit too stange that during the Olympics and Worlds Bolt literally JOGGED the final 50m of a couple of races and still ran faster than he did today…
and today he made 9.97 look VERY hard…
And this is simply because he isn’t training all that hard this season? Really?
-
He’s not eating his wild yams, saving that for the big money years.

I hear the effect of the wild yams begin to wear off if you don’t get around to eating them for a year or two.

He has already run 9.82 this year, faster than Gay ran yesterday to beat him
-
Guys are already saying hes on drugs? Maybe all you guys are on drugs. He run 9.84 -0.3 and said that his strength isnt 100%. Would have been worth 9.7 in better conditions. He went home to work on his strength….maybe this made him tired for the race yesterday. Or maybe it was just a bad day for him, like Ryan Moseley. He run 10.57 with a seasons best of 10.18.
-
Who said anything about drugs? Sweet potatoes are insanely high in nutrients and if hes partying all the time he probably is malnourished, thus the poor times.
-
I was joking. Just saying that even he can have a bad day. Everyone expects too much.
-
Gay was focused, Bolt came to entertain…

I really hope you didn’t take my potato comment seriously 🙂
-
10.18 guy running 10.57 is not nearly as bad as 9.58 guy running 9.97. Yes the drop off is the same, but is proportionately greater for Bolt.
He looked heavy and soft, muscle tone not what it usually is. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he is “cycling off” for a bit; Also wouldn’t be surprised if its simply that he’s had heavy training and was not fresh – then bounces back with a huge time later this month or next.

Here’s Bolt training on Thursday of this week in Stockholm doing some light easy close grip benches.

And the above is just an example.
If it’s not racism, it’s nationalism. Instead of celebrating Gay’s excellent performance, 9.84 is still very fast, people on here are focused on aspersions and besmirching Bolt’s name. Petty and fucked up schadenfraude. How can fellow athletes insinuate that someone who is excellent, and has done so much for the sport, is a drug abuser, and without any proof? Because he is not U.S.? Pitiful; no wonder some people never excel, your own hate is your worse enemy. Tirade over.

Don’t lump us all together Dwaine, Nick’s a limey not a Yank.
If Bolt’s on drugs so is Gay imo so that is irrelevant. Bottom line Tyson ran great, Bolt has been taking it things a little lightly and it snuck up on him.

Done riding your internet high horse?
Some people joke on the internet *gasp* and some people say things that aren’t socially acceptable.
It doesn’t make either of them invalid or off limits for conversation however. When anyone is the best in the world at something, it should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism. Why do you think nobody was surprised to hear about MLB players and performance enhancers? Its not racism or nationalism, it’s called keeping a rational thought process. It doesn’t make watching the races any less fun. Lighten up a bit.
That being said, everyone except for Gay had a ridiculously crappy time. I wouldn’t be surprised if on a different track on a different day if that race ends up being a 9.74 to a 9.87 and now Bolt is just victim of having a slightly poor race compared to Gay being stellar.
-
Wow Dwaine easy there boy…
I can have an opinion…All seems obvious to me really…
But as you may also, i know a lot of athletes who are on the pro circuit and virtually all of them say the same thing and a bunch claim to KNOW for sure…So whatever…

I can’t ride horses, so you may be right. I do not mean to come off as disrespectful either, I am not the type. Just that I get peeved at unsubstantiated obloquies against any athlete, but especially the jamaican athletes … I know that these guys train harder for longer than most would ever dream of. I’ve read many post and journals on this site, this is not a one-of occasion, or a “joke”.
I respect an celebrate all of Gay’s achievements, he seems to be a great guy, much more class than many of his supporters. Why can’t the focus be on the great performance? Let’s talk about what we know …

That is a good point. Maybe the wind guage was busted as well (0.0). Gay looked terrific in that race.
