    Patellar Tendonitis

          Hi all

          Anyone know the protocol for treating Patellar Tendonitis (Jumpers Knee)?

          Have you seen a therapist to get manual therapy (massage, art, etc.) on your quads and other areas? Did you try wearing the strap?

          Doing those things, along with possible technical modifications and short-term training adjustments, will take care of the vast majority of patellar tendonitis issues.

          I had it pretty bad this season. I wrapped prewrap tightly over the area and sometimes had the trainer do a special wrap and both seamed to help aleviate the pain while competing, even though I could still feel it. Now it’s all but gone since I haven’t jumped in a couple months (because of hamstring injury).

          I would also follow davan’s advice of the soft tissue therapy. I asked my ART provider and he said he can help out patellar tendonitis. Rest seems to be key in most things I’ve read. There’s not as much blood flow to the tendon, so it lengthens the healing time quite a bit.

          First treat the symptoms: rest, ice, compress, elevate.
          Then look at the risk factors: shoes/clothing, training, stress, fatigue, lack of sleep, nutrition,…
          And last but most important: eccentric training of the quadriceps. 12 weeks, 3×10-15 reps with a light weight, up to 2 times a day. Its allowed to hurt while doing the exercise, but when you are still hurt the next day, youve gone too hard.

          Do not stop sports for longer then a week, that will not help and will make it even worse. Instead, reduce the volume and do the 3 things i mentioned above.
