I’ve seen top level athletes takeoff using only the forefoot and others using a heel-toe motion. On top of the hurdle, the trail leg should come through and the lead leg brought down as 800prince stated. On a side note, I don’t think pawing something that should ever be cued. I’ve seen it lead to hamstring injuries and set up ineffective ground contacts. The action does happen in some top level performers but they are not actively trying to do it.
