Coach Gambetta, an excellent idea for sure! I went back and read the Times article and I happen to have visited that area a few times, and it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! and the fact that there have only been 5 different record keepers for over 100 years is truly remarkable! The reliability and validity of their findings is something that would be challenging to match in regards to coaching/training. When I first started reading this blog I was thinking along the lines of following an athletes characteristics/progressions throughout their training career, but to assess it from the other side from that of a coach is brilliant. Of course a coach usually loses athletes rather frequently (every four years if you’re a HS or college coach) compared to the objects and wildlife of that in the article, who either return or re-blossom every year, but I would imagine that many of the same “core” traits and qualities could be identified in a coaches training style over a entire career if one were to put in the time and effort to research as far back as they could. Best of luck to you in your research. All the best! -Jordan
