yea i know ive made a topic like this already but now ive learned that my schools football team will once again not lift weights during the football season, only for two weeks during the summer. our practices consisted of 20+ sprints and a bunch of other dumb stuff, nothing strength related. right now football seems like a waste of time and training on my own isnt really an option as im not knowledgeable yet to do this and if i dont train correctly it can ruin my indoor season. soccer seems like a great option to build my base for the indoor season, they do plenty of endurance work but also they have speed work and i can talk the coach into putting weights and other sprint realted things into the practice program. my passion for football has been gone for a while and even though im not serious about soccer it seems like the best option to build my base so i can run the 300m dash indoors. what do you guys think i should do, all opinions are greatly appreciated

I would highly recommend soccer and the accompanying lifting. You could probably manage to work form drills in as well. It would be easy to do hurdle specific work on your own around that schedule. Plus, while soccer is a physical contact sport, you won’t have to worry so much about the trauma to the body.
Go for it and good luck.

so soccer is a good option for me because i run the 100-200 and i do both long and triple jump

Soccer is a great sport, you will develop sport specific endurance in it. Meaning the crossover qualities will be short speed endurance, a good trait for a sprinter or distance runner. Also, your general overall fitness level will be better than say playing football.

thanks for all of the replies. do you think ill be as succesful as someone who plays football and runs track?

More successful most likely. Most football programs know how to ruin good sprinters.

danimal9 how does football ruin a good sprinter??? just wondering
-
By one of two or three ways.
(1) By injury due to trauma
(2) By putting on too much non useable weight
(3) Breaking them down with “wind” sprints till you puke thus reinforcing bad biomechanical habitsand the list could go on and on
Note: not all football coaches do this, but they would be the exception

I agree with most of the above comments, soccer and weight training seems to be your best bet.
