Bullsh**. Just like Manny was on it because of fertility problems…
He was busted during post cycle therapy and now hes trying to cover for his ass.
Yeah, its either a really crappy story or he’s in for a hell of a shock when he finds out he has testicular cancer and thats what is throwing off the test results.
In the ESPN article they say:
Cushing said he was told after he failed the test that HCG can get in your body by injection or because of tumors.
But we have
The pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is also present at low concentrations in plasma and urine of men and nonpregnant women.
…
In men, the concentrations are lower but mostly are measurable by highly sensitive assays. In those 50, it is 2 IU/L (6.1 pmol/L) (17). Concentrations as great as 3-4 IU/L are occasionally observed in healthy men.
(From https://www.clinchem.org/cgi/content/full/43/7/1293 )
I must agree I cannot connect overtraining with a rise in the levels off this particular hormone, however I do not know enough about that topic to dismiss this possibility. On the other hand, the lack of mentioning that hCG is actually normally found in males raises my suspicion of the information coming out about this issue.
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard for some time. Not to mention the four-game suspension from a positive test which is even a bigger joke. And in our sport we’re not letting athletes take part in some competitions after a four-year ban…
Agree with indigobreath! Sports like MLB Baseball and NFL Football are jokes when it comes to testing athletes! If they were serious about cleaning up their sports athletes would get much longer suspensions (comparable to Track & Field). Instead their more interested on winning championships (i.e. making lots of money)….lets face it who would want to watch a World Series Championship or Superbowl where the star/key players are missing due to drug suspensions. If you told me some NFL/MLB teams purposely have weak testing protocols to lower the chance of a positive test(s) from their athletes then I would absolutely believe it.
I can’t find the NFL testing rules that I once had, but they don’t considered a 4:1 test ratio to be an automatic positive.
I’m actually surprised they are going to implement hgh testing this year.
Wow. Just wow.
Of course, let’s be honest, the NFL has a vested interest in not being serious about testing. We watch it to watch monsters kill each other. That’s the whole point.
Remember back when The Fridge was playing. That fat tub of lard was considered something out of this world. Now he looks like an out of shape Sumo wrestler in comparison to modern day linemen. Guys on the line now are some of the largest freaks that have ever walked the earth.
… natural. Sure.
The NFL would still close their eyes to some degree if their wasn’t such a public stigma toward PED’s now that the truth behind these sports comes out. I hate the cheating aspect of using the drugs for sport but the majority of the drugs I can’t see the problem with. There are many instances where smart usage of testosterone, HGH, SARMs, etc. can be beneficial physically and psychologically. At times there’s a weird public stigma towards testosterone supplementation in older men yet it is common for older women to supplement during menopause.
The majority of the public has virtually no problem with boob jobs, liposuction, gastric bypass, botox, etc. and in certain parts of the country there is no black mark placed for having a nose job or cheek implants and on and on. However, in many of these same areas if you took testosterone and HGH for physical appearance benefits or even health benefits you would be looked at like a fruitcake. I don’t get it. It seems like every dinner party I have been to in the last few years ALL of the women can’t wait to get augmented. Yet, if I said when I am 55, 60 years old you better believe I’ll be topping off the stores they woulkd look at me like I am crazy and that I would be killing myself doing so.

And now that it has gone on so long in the NFL, for decades……I am not sure I would care to watch that “clean” NFL product.

It is interesting to say the least – I think the stygma around use of various PEDs is that the associations people make are of “roid rage”, liver disease, and BBers with ridiculous physiques. The danger in these drugs is when they are used in exceptionally high doses and by individuals whose natural T has not begun dropping.
Safe to say cheeseburgers and beer have caused a lot more deaths than steroid use.
And then the same people who shun use of drugs use OTC stuff with god knows what in them because they’re legal.
Albert Hanesworth can’t use that defense!
How ridiculous….before you know it we’ll have someone claiming they tested positive because of their toothpaste, or having too much sex and beer, or a rogue massage therapist.

First, this post shows how backwards our society truly is and I agree whole heartedly. To touch on the NFL, more guys will have problems later in life from playing in the NFL regardless if they took PED’s or not. The amount of abuse their bodies take every sunday from being on the field hardly amounts to the damage of drugs(if not abused). Guys that can do other things successfully usually duck out of the NFL when they can and make money other ways. Look at Chris Collinsworth and Michael Irvin, one hit basically ended their careers on the field. I am not saying whether it is right or wrong, but to an NFL player, the risk is higher on the field as to what is going to shorten their life-span.
As to other sports, the same can’t be said.
