    Preparing for a competition

          Hey Everyone,

          I have been searching this board and i havent really found anything on what i should be doing as preperation for an important meeting, i have fond some things but not really what i am looking for :(.

          Could someone tell me what kind of workouts (if any) i should be doing the week before an important meeting. I dont think i should be doing and strength work or plyometric work because of the effect it has on the CNS – i dunno what i should be doing. Could someone help me out?

          In my opinion the most important factor to prepare for competition is to increase rest to allow for supercompensation from previous training cycles and eliminate any accumulated fatigue. This is typically done by increasing or maintaining a high intensity and decreasing volume. In contrast to what you mentioned, strength and plyometric work can very effectively be worked into a tapering routine….just ensure that it’s done in low volumes and you are getting enough rest.

          Curious about the rest you are refering too, how much would you recommend and what type? Maybe give me an example of rest over a two week period. By rest are you talking days off, days with just warm up, or days with just tempo?

          I was primarily referring to increased rest as a result of decreased workload. This may come in the form of easier easy days, lower volume hard days, or possibly even an extra complete rest day.
