I know that non-reaction touch sprint, reaction sprint to small beep sound, and fly times are possible with this system.

In order to do each, is minimum requirement stopwatch+touch pad+1 junior transmitter for non-reaction sprint, stopwatch+touch pad+1 junior
or stopwatch+2 juniors for reaction sprints, and stopwatch+2 juniors for fly times?

So to do all three, it would require stopwatch+touch pad+2 juniors?

Also, regarding accuracy, I know that the video on Youtube says Freelap times .02s faster than photocell, but is photocell as accurate as
the FATs used in track meets? Will Freelap be no more than .02s off from track meet FATs? (except for other factors such as arousal/anxiety
or small beep vs. loud gun).

          Thank you.

Correct. The first two methods would use the tx touch and tx junior transmitters and the third method would use two tx junior transmitters.

Freelap and single beam photo cell timing systems have similar precision. Timing systems such as FinishLynx have much more precision.

Do you know anything about how much difference there is between standard meet FAT like Finishlynx and Freelap? Is it like consistently about 0.06 second difference, or is it like 0.02 to 0.1 second difference?

Since the major flaw of handtiming is that even though it is usually thought to be 0.2 faster time, it can be anywhere from 0.5 faster time to slower time than FAT in rare cases.

          Thank you.

I’m not sure if you are asking about the athlete’s reaction time or a timing system’s accuracy, so I’ll discuss both.

FinishLynx uses a microphone for the start which includes the reaction time. When an athlete uses the Freelap TX Touch as a touch-and-release start, this would not include the athlete’s reaction time, so you would need to add a guesstimate if you wanted a comparable time. If a coach or assistance holds the TX Touch and the athlete starts on the watch beep, then that would include the athlete’s reaction time.

Regarding timing precision, the Freelap system has been tested using a multi-beam IVAR system and two TX Juniors set up as a 30 meter fly-in sprint and the precision error was on the order of 0.02 seconds.

          Best,
          Christopher

Well I was just wondering how accuracy and precision were when comparing Freelap with reaction time included vs. standard meet fully automatic timing system. If there hadn’t ever been any comparison, it’s okay.

          Thank you.
