Basically I just wanted to rant about HS athletic training. I am currently in HS and have been training for nearly 2 years. The first year I followed my HS coaches plan to a T, yet cut barely anything from my times (didn’t even get newby results). This past year, from reading info from everyone on elitetrack, I have cut over a second off my 60 time, (I know, I was slow before I started now I run an alright 7/05 60 and 3.9 30). Anyway, now, for the upcoming offseason, my coach is making his workouts mandatory. So instead of completing my old workout program, I will have to spend 2 hours 3 times a week doing everything in the world but running. We do a skips b skips resistance training, 1 minute of squat jumps (squat jumps i like but 1 minute!! and then he claims it will be great for our explosiveness!!) ladder drills, agility drills, no squats or weights, no 1 rep max jumps, and so on. As well, I think I counted 6 times in the whole offseason the first year with him where we worked specifically on sprinting. Just because all these drills were invented, doesnt mean sprinting wont improve you speed!
Anyway, I dont really know what to do, if I say I am not doing the workouts with him, good bye starting, and there is no way i can plan around them (workouts monday wednesday friday)
