I watched Shaq Vs. for the first time today, but basically its Shaq going against other big sports stars in their sport. Today it was Shaq vs Michael Phelps in the pool, but Shaq had a handicap. This got me thinking, do you think if Shaq competed against any big names in the world of track he has a chance? What event do you think he would be best in? What other big names in the sports world could potentially do well in track?

Shaq would have no chance in any event in track. Well, maybe with a little help he could throw discus.

I’d say that American Football players and Rugby players are the athletes most likely to succeed in Track and Field.

I’ve seen soccer kids converted in to damn good 400 hurdlers. Good hip ROM and power.

During highschool one of my friends 2 years younger than me joined the team without any experience. No lifting, no running, just karate. He ended up long jumping 19ish feet with very minimal training.

19 feet sucks though…so what did that mean?

In this case it might not suck so much. The guy was two years younger in high school, so he was a sophomore at the oldest, and had no training.

19 feet to start isn’t terrible. Did the kid ever improve?

Does anyone else chuckle to themselves when they imagine Shaq trying to pole vault?

I hate that the show isnt real…

Shaq could have easily beat Dela Hoya and held back…

He could have beat Phelps but held back

The football one was totally fixed as well…

          Shame he didnt try 100%.

Yeah exactly, de la hoya might be a topnotch light middleweight, but Shaq would eat Oscar’s body weight per day probably. No contest at all.

Hard to say, since there is so much variance in the physiology and ability of folks at a variety of positions. I see the #8s as the multi-event type guys, the lock as the discus throwers, the full-backs as the sprinters, the props as the shot putters.

Again, so much variance- but those are general thoughts.

I would guess Shaq would make a great glide shot putter if he had the chance to develop. He has the build of many of the top German gliders but is considerably taller. Within the normal range of athlete’s heights observed in the event, release height doesn’t have a significant impact on performance but Shaq would have the advantage of being well outside of the normal (already tall) range.
