Ok, all coaches on the forum, imput required!

          Heres the scenario…

18 year old male, very good soccer player. Has trials with pro team in 14 weeks. Focus is speed/ agility and soccer conditioning in 3 sessions per week.

How would you set up the training…be as brief or as detailed as you like…I’m interested in your different opinions…

          Only three sessions:

          Mon/Fri: speed/agility/jumps/weights
Wed: 3000-5000m of tempo, bb circuits, mb circuits

          For a soccer player…

How do you all feel about mixing systems during each session…

          Example,

tues/thurs/sat – speed/agility/metabolic of some kind on all days but with varying emphasis on each day…

I dont see a problem but im curious what kind of metabolic work? Im sure hes playing games throughout the week and that should count towards his metabolic work.

Yeah very true…after tomorrow i will know everything i need too…just wanted to do some prep work and get some ideas…

If what your saying is not the case…then metabolic work like…

          – Continuous hard run/semi hard run/jog etc etc etc up field lengths and widths x4-6
          – Various circuits w/running included (20-45secs on/off)

other type contnuous medium intensity work with short recovery…

If its med intensity “intensive tempo” then you should be ok. If its traditional tempo then probably not.

soccer is an alternating tempo game, just like basketball except soccer has a larger playing area and longer halves. I would add sets of continuous runs of alternating tempos (fartlek) if he’s not playing games.
