Does anyone know how sprinters train in the fall? No one has been able to give me a real answer. I've been running track for a long time and I've never really known what to do at the end of the season. Now I've heard that you lift, but what kind of running takes place? I don't want to do too much distance running if it's not necessary.

GPP…. just get into shape, do things you might not normally do, like more hills and intervals… lots of fun options 🙂

personally i play field hockey and do some lifting on the side… it's all on grass and keeps me in good shape. i avoid track workouts until mid-late november.

You definitely don't want to be doing distance runs…..unless you want to be a distance runner? Here's something I posted that in another thread that might be of value:

          Very Very Early: 1 meso
          Int. Tempo: 1 day a week (~1600m / session)
          Ext. Tempo: 2 days a week (~2200m / session)
Speed: resisted runs or hills / stairs: 2 days a week (~500m / session)

          Ext. Tempo: 3 days a week (~2200m / session)
          Speed:
-acceleration development: 1 day a week (~120m total)
-resisted runs or hills / stairs: 1 day a week (~400m total)

I replied to you via PM but since I prefer to answer questions here, I'd say that you could build up starting from about 350-400m and work your way up.
