    Sprinter/LJ'er Training.

          Ok guys this may have been touched upon but id like to hear everyones opinion. For a college athlete that trains for every sprint including the occassional 400 and is also a solid long jumper where does long jump training fit into the athletes training.

          Lets assume during the competition phase training was as follows…

          Monday-Sp. End
          Tuesday-Ext. Tempo
          Wednesday-Accel/Max velocity
          Thurs-Ext Tempo
          Friday-Rest or premeet.

          What should be done about long jump training and how and when should it be implemented for this athlete?

          Quik-

          Since you're going to be training the LJ as well as your sprint work, it will be important to fit in probably 2 days (Tues./Thurs.) of short approach work with full jumps. Landing drills can also be fit in on these days easily.

          Skipping/bounding drills to some extent -does not need to be very high volume – should be incorporated a couple times a week.
          Full approach work can be done on Friday and maybe one other day (wed.) if necessary.

          Also, I'm not sure what your lifting regimine is, but at least 2 days a week it would be a good idea to hit your OL's and squats…during comp. phase a high intensity-low volume routine. I fit this in on Mon./Wed. during this phase. Med ball circuit might also be in order 1-2 days/wk.

          Hope this helps in some way…..

          I'd cut extensive tempo in half (or eliminate it at certain points of the year) and do short approach jumps on Tuesdays and Thursdays. When it was the point of year when full approach work would be incorporated, I'd cut down the volume of the Wednesday workout and do 4-5 full approaches prior to the acc. dev / maxV workout.

          I already got the lifting taken care of.

          i dont know about doing short approach work with full jumps on tuesdays and thursday. These days are my recovery days. If i am doing this type of thing between 2 high intensity days my workout will suffer tremendouly. i have done it in the past a fews weeks ago and i could not recover.

          Thanx for your comments. i'd also like ot hear from others on when and what they do with there sprint jumpers.

          That is most likely what i was planning on doing.

          Good points….I seem to have solely concentrated on giving you jumps routine w/o taking into account all your sprint work throughout the week!! My bad.
