lengthen your strides and strengthen your legs

It sounds like the problem might be stride length as opposed to stride frequency. If you have good mechanics but you feel like the 'wheels are spinning' and not going anywhere, I would prescribe (in the simplest form) as Matt said….work on strengthening your legs (best in the form of squatting movements and olympic lifts), AND focus work in practice on stride length.
If you are a short sprinter or a jumper who must rely on a strong drive phase of acceleration, concentrate on aspects like proper low body angles at the start, force application against the ground and proper pushing contacts, and as mentioned correct arm action as well.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the topic at hand or not, but I have a freshman sprinter that until this season never ran track in her life. When she first came out in January she had no idea how to properly accelerate. So when she started races, coming out of the blocks she would consciously lean her body forward (to the point to where she would actually be bent over at the wait while coming out). However, she continued to do this, and after a while she had become VERY good at accelerating. In fact she now has the best start of any sprinter on my team. Is this an ideal way to teach proper acceleration (telling them to consciously lean forward), or was this an isolated, unique case?

i see i do squats but i admit i stopped doing it to practice more on technique and endurance.Cause i lack endurance big time.i stopped i used to do 4 sets of 8 of 185lbs,if i trained more i could've went past the 200lbs mark.I guess back to the workout gym.Yeah my coach says i come out of the starts with the speed from 60m start.maybe just technique
