Your forcing front side mechanics which make you claw to much out. The swing leg swings to fare out in front of the knee at the wrong time.
You need to perfect your kneelift. Focus on getting the knee higher, like running in high grass, not clawing.

if your focusing on dorsi flexion = toes to shines, dont!
Rune, what do you think are the cons to this?

Thanks…I did notice that I have sub-par knee lift.

I’d like to hear what he has to say but maybe if he think about dorsi flexion too much then it will cause his lower leg to cast out at the wrong time like it currently is?

Yeah Izzle basically when you are accelerating out you want to be pushing back against the ground but when you open up your lower leg like that then it looks like it will cause you to break some. Same thing when you are more upright later in the video. If you’ve ever seen people do B-skips the wrong way, that is sort of what it looks like. Think about accelerating the leg down and getting foot contacts right underneath you when you are upright.

Also lower heal recovery at the start would be good to think about as well.

I asked because I have had people tell me to dorsi-flex off the ground because I ran similarly to izzle with my leg casting out. They said it would make the foot land under hips properly by doing so. Personally, I think just working on stepping down works better. And pump the arms.

Thanks Eric I really appreciate it.

The problem with most around Dorsi Flexion is that at toe-off they remember to dorsiflex but once the heel has recovered and the swing leg begans to push down they don’t maintain dorsiflexion and subsequently tap the ground with their toes. This will look to the eye, as if the sprinter is casting the shin or running “toe-y”.
The trick is to maintain dorsi flexion thru ground contact. This provides the optimal opportunity to apply greater forces.
Personally, I think Izzle has a slight posterior tilt and could benefit from running upright more at top-end. This may or may not solve the seemingly low thigh lift after toe-off. Also, Izzle needs to maintain dorsi flexion thru ground contact. This is one of the many purposes of the “A-Skip” which is to teach proper ground contact mechanics.

I don’t care much for dorsiflexion. Maybe I just have hypermobile ankles, but if I’m dorsiflexed my toes don’t touch the ground, my heel does. Bolt and other elites heels almost never touch the ground. Don’t point your toes like a ballerina and don’t focus too much on dorsiflexion. Hit hard pushes back for the first 15m and then focus on hitting hard underneathe you. The little stuff tends to take care of itself after awhile.

Push up start. My knee lift is still a little low and my hips are too. I’m not sure if it is just because I am accelerating during this 20 meter sprint or if I am braking at the hips. I was trying to focus on getting the foot down and letting my body unfold naturally. I think I may be sitting back slightly due to bending at the waist a little. I will also upload a video later with more of a focus on posture.
