SQUATS. i didnt read the article because i couldnt access it, but my squats and vert have always increased at about the same rate. and when i take some time off from squatting, my vert suffers slightly. dont know if that pertains to the article, but just my opinion, whenever in doubt, squat !!
good article and he brings up some good points, but he never really backs anything up with real evidence, just the bike analogy, which is a good way of explaining it. while i agree if a person squats 500, they might not get any faster if they squatted 600 lbs, but then again they might. another thing that he talks about is bascially the more you squat the bigger your quads are. i disagree for the simple fact that leg development on squats varies with the different stances. bodybuidlers go with a really narrow stance which uses more quads whereas westside barbell squaters go as wide as possible using almost all hamstrings and posterier chain. so it depends on how you squat. but what i liked about the article is that it brought up the good point about, when does muscle mass put on due to higher strength levels begin to inhibit speed. that is when is the optimum strength to weight ratio reached. i mean if you go from 500 to 600 lbs in the squat and dont increase bodyweight, that would be a huge advantage for the strength to weight, but if you gained 10 lbs because of it, than they were probably better off squatting 500. nice article though !! what do you guys think??
thanks so much for that site, im still reading through all the articles.
