I’m personally not really a big fan of sticks but I believe Todd, Kebba, and possibly JJ use them. They might be able to tell you what they use. Sorry I can’t help.

i played around with all of those variations in the past.. don’t really “like” any of them per se. except to give the athlete a “feel”.

but i will use more individual “models” a times. also it’s impt to remember a Boo-ism. the drill is not the master. So using sticks won’t solve the problem for you, it’s just a tool to help the athlete understand things like projection, force application, rhythm and rhythm shifts, patience…..

alll of these can be taught without stick drillls as well. as a point even when i use stick drills i often do them in combos, e.g.:

          1) 2-3 x stick drill (whatever variation) – sometimes loaded w/wt vest or ankle wt
          2) 1-3 x flying sprint or acc run w/o stiicks

          or

stick drill for various distance – 10-20m open sprinting – stick drilll.

this enables them (i believe) to make the transfer to the real deal. sometimes i’ll do the drills with people of about the same speed (or i’ll handicap the athlete against someone slightly slower) so that they have tio stay on task under pressure and in a competetive environment.

          also charlie francis states…

It never ceases to amaze me how many people use these drills. They come with instructions for the progression of the sticks/ ladders etc. How can everybody be the same? Are you 5foot 5 or 6foot6? Long legs? Short legs? Sprinting is a hind- brain activity, where simple functions (alternations)can be performed at great speed. Adding complexity to a basically simple activity (and adding a targeting function as well) moves tasking to the fore- brain, which processes actions more slowly. It also encourages tightness, which is death to the sprinter.

          and why is that?
we both post on his site and i see no reason why i cant post something he stated that is of value to anyone on these boards? its not like i am taking credit for what he said. i am giving him credit and posting something that can help people that i agree with that pertains to this topic.

The one “stick drill” that we use, in early fall is an acceleration progression.
          We use trochanter length x 2.35-2.50 x increases %.
It individualizes it somewhat. As Kebba said, not a master, but a tool to teach.
