tapering for a marathon, as suggested by the best, should start 3 weeks before the race and for each week, mileage should decrease by 40%. mentally that's tough to do. QUES: is it really necessary to taper? if so, what is the added value? (note: i am not referring to resting prior to the race)
i am inclined to think, for moderate mileage runners, 50 week, tapering isn't necessary, simply rest and no running 2 days before the race. for low mileage— no benefit with tapering.
